Uproar where Needed: Iran

Wed Jun 17, 2009, 3:00 AM
A social revolution has indeed struck in an area which sorely needs it. If there is nothing I can do then at least I can let it be known that genuinely brave people have tried and deserve credit for standing up and not taking the injustice the world has showered them with. Join the bandwagon if you can, because at the moment I know of little else I can do to help but hope is indeed one of the few things this cruel, beastly world can't rip from our hands and hearts. I may not be the correct person to have ideals of any kind and I may not be important at all but hope is important even to a devout cynic like me and the more I see something like this happen I hope more than anything to see something, anything, change for the better in this tiny dank world at the edge of nothingness. That may mean nothing but even if it all turns out bad I can't be any further disappointed than I already am. The world will still turn tomorrow if with a few less handfuls of people and a couple less glimmers of hope.

This was brought to my attention by :iconblacklillian: (whom realistically you've probably seen her Journal here [link] )

I know it might seem redundant or stupid to post something a far more popular deviant has posted already but I figure I might as well try to spread it around further if at all possible. Give her as much support as you can, even though it is most likely very little and hope for the best because if you can't hope for that, then whats the point of going on living? Good luck.

Alan Moore would be probably be sickened by the idea of his work being touted as evidence to support something so current, since most of his work mocks the concept of politics altogether, from both sides; anarchist and political.

From what I understand, one of the candidates denied the holocaust (and been practically imaginative when it comes to political history), and the other accepted its existence but had, when previously being in power, treated the people like common scum. They don't exactly have freedom of choice, and I don't think a couple of thousand people on a website will make a difference!

I see a particularly American angle to BlackLillian's journal, and I honestly wonder why. Apart from garnering attention from those Americans who consider themselves particularly well-informed politically, I really cannot see what the point in all this is. One geek will not change the world (unless, arguable, you're Steve Jobs or Mr. Gates). Why is there so much "guilt for Americans" being presented here? You had no say in their elections!

Colbert can go suck on my crotch too, since most of his comedy is passive - rarely does he take on the bigwigs in person.

BlackLillian's cool. It's a shame she uses her art account as a political soapbox.

Well I think it's obvious I don't intend to be able to effect anything really. At the time of posting this I honestly didn't know the story was so well circulated already. Otherwise I wouldn't have said anything about it. Originally the intent was just to let people know but everyone knows so whatever.

American guilt is genetic. We hurt people and then feel bad about it but don't actually do anything about it. It's how we hypocritically cope.

Hey dude, just mopping up some collateral after a particularly heavy night on the booze. Remembered I'd left a comment somewhere, but couldn't honestly remember where! Turns out it was here.

Anyway, re-reading what I wrote in a stupor, I'm surprised that I wasn't as vulgar as I imagined I'd been, and most of the sentiment still rings true for me while I'm sober.

Instead, I'll just apologise in case the comment felt as though I was verbally assaulting you, and I'll say thanks for spreading the word and just advise that it would've been easier for me to track down and apologise for my drunken ravings if you'd used the "reply" button. ;)

Crap I thought I did. Oh well.

Nah to be honest your comment put a smile on my face. I live in America and I rather enjoy hearing an outsider perspective regardless of how inebriated. Also my American guilt doesn't let me feel good about the world so I need justification to not care about shit :P.

I also agree Alan Moore would turn in his grave (simply because I like to imagine he sleeps in a coffin).

I'm British, and we have a long history of not accepting responsibility for anything, so no worries. ;)
